Interior Design

High Level Luxury Modern Design

In designing the interiors of Hepburn at Hepburn’s villas, David Edelman in collaboration with David Hicks has created a private sanctuary of luxury and comfort.

The feel is that of a luxe hotel room, but the conveniences are those of a self-contained villa.

Award Winning

David has designed sophisticated and award-winning interiors in the residential, retail, commercial and hospitality spheres.

David Edelman Architects is an architecture firm specialising in luxury residential design. The Melbourne based firm offers a range of services from initial site selection, town planning and financial feasibilities to interior design, construction and development advice.

This sanctuary is a refined home away from home. Finely detailed built-in elements do all the hard work; the living space is edged by a wall of joinery neatly containing the kitchen, fireplace, television and desk. This strategy conceals the everyday, celebrating the more pleasurable aspects of the experience. Woven curtains bring a sense of intimacy to the bedroom and bathroom, wrapping them to create an elegant cocoon for relaxation. After five, a dramatic lighting arrangement animates and defines the space. A deep red and a deep green colour scheme alternate across the villas. The rich red palette features Nero Marquina marble, burgundy soft furnishings, black gloss furniture and dark-stained timber joinery. Crisp white and natural oak is teamed with deep green to create a calming palette in the alternate scheme. David has applied his astute sense of juxtaposition and contrast to the furnishings selection.

Hepburn at Hepburn is a sophisticated version of the luxury experience. If you enjoy the sound of birds chirping in the landscape just outside the window, but don’t want to view this scene through a fright of patterned curtains, this is your kind of place. And with Hepburn at Hepburn’s two colour schemes, David has constructed a sophisticated interpretation of “luxury modern design”.

One palette picks up on the earthy redness of the region’s soil. These villas feel rich and warm, with deep burgundy rugs and sofas, dramatic nero marquina marble, black gloss furniture and dark timber. The other villas use the fresh green of Hepburn Springs’ landscape to invigorate the senses and calm the mind, with deep green furnishings, crisp white finishes and natural oak timber.

David has put on show sleek and elegant joinery, feature fireplaces, custom-made sofas and bamboo armchairs, glass-walled bathrooms, and quirky elements such as Chinese ceramic drums used as bedside tables. Practical elements such as dishwashers and refrigerators are concealed. Lighting creates a dramatic environment at night.

“The quality and attention to detail in the design of the villas will make Hepburn at Hepburn one of the most sought-after luxury spa experiences”

Landscape Design

At Hepburn at Hepburn, leading landscape designer Jack Merlo has created a contemporary retreat that sits quietly within the surrounding bushland. Jack, who is frequently an architect’s designer of choice, worked closely with David Edelman Architects to realise the vision of Hepburn at Hepburn.

Ornamental species create bold, sculptural forms around the villas, gradually giving way to plants indigenous to the Hepburn Springs region. Jack has used strong geometric lines and a restrained materials palette of dark stone and timber to complement the villas’ clean, modern architecture. The result is gardens that are as exquisite as the villas themselves.

Gold Medal Class Design

“Most important was that the landscape sit comfortably in the beautiful natural setting of Hepburn Springs,” Jack explains.

Jack has won several awards in Australia and overseas – including a gold medal at London’s world-famous Chelsea Flower Show – for his stand-out landscape designs.

“The Daylesford/Hepburn Springs region is an idyllic place for a getaway retreat and Hepburn at Hepburn will set a new standard in design and amenity not seen elsewhere in the region.”

Jack Merlo Design’s strong, architectural style emphasises purity of shape and form, and privileges harmony between soft and hard landscaping elements and site architecture.
